Safety information, installation and general cybersecurity guidelines

Updated on 2026.08.28

Please note

Embedded Systems SIA equipment must be installed, operated, serviced and maintained only by qualified personnel.

A qualified person is one who has skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and its installation (e.g., KNX certification) and has received safety training to recognize and avoid the hazards involved.

Final on-site high-voltage wiring and grid integration must be executed strictly by certified, licensed electrical professionals holding relevant industrial qualifications.

The integrator or installer bears sole, exclusive legal and operational responsibility for implementing proper external overcurrent protection and ensuring that all third-party actuators, heavy-duty contactors or external power relay blocks interfaced with the equipment are independently safety-certified and rated for their actual operational loads.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Embedded Systems SIA shall not be liable for damage resulting from installation contrary to the product documentation, applicable electrical regulations or these mandatory safety instructions.

Embedded Systems SIA cannot be held responsible for performance problems and incompatibilities caused by applications, services or devices from third-party providers.

Strict exclusion of life-safety and critical applications

Embedded Systems SIA equipment is not rated, tested or certified for use in life-safety, mission-critical or fail-safe operational environments.

These products must not under any circumstances be deployed as primary or secondary control elements in:

  • Fire suppression and emergency sprinkler networks.
  • Emergency backup lighting and backup power sequencing.
  • Smoke extraction, ventilation overrides and automated evacuation signaling.
  • Critical medical infrastructure, life-support hardware or aviation controls.
  • Any other automated system where a hardware deployment or software logic failure could directly threaten or endanger human life.
  • Any installation of Embedded Systems SIA equipment in a life-safety role constitutes a direct, material violation of these mandatory usage restrictions. All legal, operational and financial liability in such unauthorized deployments is borne exclusively and entirely by the client, project developer or system integrator who made the unauthorized installation decision.

Embedded Systems SIA equipment may be used for non-safety supervisory monitoring, visualization or integration provided that the underlying safety functions operate independently and remain compliant with all applicable safety requirements.

General cybersecurity guidelines

Networking

  • Equipment should be installed in a secure network with limited access.
  • Separate network segments either physically, by using VLANs or firewalls.
  • Use 802.1X EAP-TLS authentication to allow only trusted equipment on the network.

Security

  • Access the equipment using HTTPS protocol. Using HTTP over VPN is allowed as the connection is already encrypted.
  • Install the SSL certificate application from the LM app store to obtain a valid certificate.
  • Perform LM project backups periodically and store them in a safe place.
  • Perform regular LM firmware upgrades.

Remote access

  • LM cloud can be used for remote control.
  • Use VPN (WireGuard, ZeroTier or OpenVPN) for remote commissioning and diagnostics.
  • Never use port forwarding.

KNX security

  • Always use secure KNX/IP routing.
  • Disable KNX/IP features after the project has been fully commissioned if KNX/IP Routing is not needed.
  • Use KNX data secure where applicable.
